Important Announcement: Farewell from kwiry
April 13, 2009 – 12:32 pmIt’s with heavy hearts that we write this post. On April 23, 2009 (12AM PDT), we will be discontinuing the kwiry service. As of today, the service will no longer accept new sign-ups. We have very much enjoyed getting to know many of you and working to build features to help you get things done and simplify your lives. We appreciate all of your help, feedback and patience as the kwiry service evolved. Unfortunately, due to economic realities, we can no longer maintain the service.
From now until April 23, you can download all of your past kwirys in .csv format (can be opened in Excel as a spreadsheet) once you login.
We want to thank our wonderful and supportive investors at Hummer Winblad, our board of advisors and our partners. Also, we couldn’t have done any of this without the tireless support of our friends and family during the last few years.
Thanks for being part of the kwiry community,
-Ron, Steve & Nabil
Q&A
When will kwiry be shut down?
kwiry will stop accepting new users immediately and will shut down completely on April 23 at 12AM PDT.
How do I get my data?
Click here to download a .csv (spreadsheet) file with all of your kwirys.
What services can I use instead of kwiry?
While we don’t think anyone else out there has a service like kwiry’s - here are some other services that you might find useful to replace some of the ways that you use kwiry:
Remember the Milk (www.rememberthemilk.com)
Evernote (www.evernote.com)
Jott (www.jott.com)
Dial2Do (www.dial2do.com)
Reqall (http://www.reqall.com/)
Netflix services (http://developer.netflix.com/forum/topics/28967)
TiVo (m.tivo.com, http://i.tv/)
Status updating (http://ping.fm/)

Thanks for the wonderful concept, Kwiry team. I hope Kwiry users can find alternatives and not get severely affected by this sudden announcement.
Will the Kwiry team(members) continue on in some other project(s)?

Major bummer! I loved the service. Best of luck in the future.
By Chris on Apr 13, 2009
Sorry to see this happen guys. Did you consider offering a subscription version of the service?
Best of luck in you next endeavors.

We know and appreciate the effort it takes to develop a service like kwiry and we are sad to see you go. With the fear that it might sound inappropriate at this point, I like to suggest txtful for anyone who might be looking for a new home. txtful shortcuts lets you get things done on the web using sms, email, IM, twitter, etc
Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Any chance you can open source the codebase so your efforts don’t go to waste?

@Bes thanks for your kind note. I hope so as well. As for us, we all certainly hope to move on to great things in the future. You can follow me (Ron) on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/feldmanr.
@Chris Glad to hear you loved the service.
@rcoburn - Thanks, appreciate it. We did consider offering subscriptions but didn’t see a way in which that could sustain the service/company.
@Harry - Thanks for the tip. Sorry we didn’t include you in the original e-mail about other services, wasn’t aware you were offering some similar ones. Best of luck.

@Dennis We did consider the open-source route, but the mobile/SMS integration and the specific way our service was written made it too difficult for us to see a way down that path.

Gentlemen,
Thanks so much for one of the most useful services I’ve used in a long, long time. I’m sad to see kwiry go. I echo others’ responses and wish you well wherever you go.
I hope to see more of your ideas/services in the future!

@Vince thanks for the sentiment.

I too hate to see kwiry go… It seemed as if you wrote it just for me! It was a service I would have been willing to pay for. Best of luck in the future.

I’ve been pulling for you guys. I was shocked when I got the email. Don’t take to much time to licking your wounds, because I know you know that are a bunch of opportunities out there so what that I ask “what’s next?”.
I appreciate the hard work and sacrifices. keep grinding.
Follow me @dejon97.

Sorry to hear about the not-so-good news. Many successful entrepreneurs shared their word of wisdom at EntrepreneurTrek 2009 and the common theme there is speed — go fast; make mistakes fast; learn fast! You’ve done that! Congrats!
Phil Libin, CEO, Evernote spoke at EntrepreneurTrek. He is great & I was very impressed with Evernote. I believe Evernote has raised over $13M.
Let me know if you want to connect with Phil. I’m sure there are lessons to be learned. You can find my contact information at EntrepreneurTrek.org.
Congrats on your & your team’s accomplishments!

This is very disappointing and I’m sad to see you go. I wish you all the best in their next endeavors! I’m sure we’ll see you back, in one form or another, sooner rather than later…

@Keith @dejon97 @Tan @Mark Cramer - thanks so much for the kind words, we really appreciate it. @Tan - I know Phil, but thanks for the offer.
